Rules of spiritual engagement #1

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”  Eph. 6:12. We read that passage and forget that this verse is real-life living, this is happening right now in everyone’s life, just not Believers.

I believe, as Believers, we can have victory. So rule #1 is “have a godly vision/goal”. “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. “(Prov. 29:18) If we have no goal from God we definitely will fail. So you must first have a godly desire. Desire is fulfilled after you delight in God. (Ps. 37:4). Most Christians never accomplish anything for God because they never delight in Him. We must get into His Word, obey His leading, and trust Him to be Faithful and True.

The devil will attempt to get us caught up in earthly desires (Matt. 6:21-32), so we must “seek Him first…” (Matt. 6:33). Our problem isn’t that God is hiding from us but as Believers we are never seeking Him after salvation.

After we have delighted in the LORD and have sought Him, we must follow James 4:2 “Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.” We must ask. The number one reason we have no godly goal/vision is we don’t ask. Make sure the heart is right, or God will not hear you (Ps. 66:18), get your “lusts” out of the way (James 4:3), and practice Psalms 46:10 – “Be still” and let God be God.
